Today, we're announcing a major expansion of our California operations. ElevenLabs will hire 173 people across the state - all high-paying roles in research, engineering, sales, and other functions - and invest millions of dollars in our California presence. To support this growth, ElevenLabs has been awarded an incentive through the California Competes Tax Credit (CalCompetes) program, administered by Governor Gavin Newsom’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz).

California has long been the global center of technology, talent, and innovation, making it an ideal place for ElevenLabs to deepen its U.S. footprint. We already have staff across the state, with San Francisco and Los Angeles as our primary California hubs, and this commitment allows us to scale our presence, expand our research and enterprise work, and advance our mission of reimagining human-technology interaction.

Growing across California

The CalCompetes award is tied to our planned job creation and investment in the state. California is the global heart of artificial intelligence, and its ability to attract and grow the world's leading AI companies is unmatched. We're proud to add a distinct frontier to that ecosystem: voice and audio AI. The 173 new roles will deepen California's bench of specialized audio research and engineering talent, and reinforce the state's position as the destination of choice for the next generation of responsible AI companies.

"California is where the future is built," said Governor Gavin Newsom. "Through investments like CalCompetes, we’re helping companies expand manufacturing, advance breakthrough technologies, and create high-quality jobs that will further strengthen our economy and communities for years to come."

California is already home to many of the companies building on ElevenLabs. As we expand here, we're proud to support businesses across the state - from MasterClass conversations with AI experts like Gordon Ramsay and Chess.com coaching millions of players in grandmasters' voices, to Square's AI-powered voice ordering for restaurants, Meta dubbing Reels into 70+ languages, and Nvidia producing multilingual keynotes.

Deepening our collaboration with the State of California

Beyond this investment, we're excited to deepen our collaboration with the State of California in two key areas:

  • Public services and accessibility. We want to work with the state to explore how voice AI can make government information and services more accessible—including for the visually impaired, those with low literacy or learning differences, elderly citizens, and California's many linguistically diverse communities. Deploying AI in public services is one of the best ways to ensure the benefits of this technology are felt broadly.
  • AI safety. ElevenLabs is proud to be part of the Governor's task force on countering tech-enabled fraud. As voice AI becomes more capable, we believe it's essential to advance safeguards, transparency, and research that protect the public—and we're committed to bringing our expertise to this effort alongside the state.

Growing alongside governments worldwide

Our investment in California reflects a broader belief: that AI companies should grow alongside the communities where they operate. We're hiring across research, engineering, sales, and other teams with open roles listed at elevenlabs.io/careers

This growth builds on our work across the United States and beyond, where we're investing in jobs and partnering with governments to make public services more accessible and advance responsible AI. For example:

  • In New York, we're expanding our U.S. operations in New York City—creating hundreds of jobs and investing in research and development, supported by Empire State Development's Excelsior Jobs Program.
  • In the United Kingdom, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology to bring voice AI to public services, deepen AI security research with the UK AI Security Institute, and invest in AI talent.
  • In Greece, we entered a strategic partnership to bring voice AI to public services and tourism, and to help preserve endangered regional dialects.
  • In Ukraine, we provide the voice layer for the Diia app and power voice agents for the state employment service.
  • In the Czech Republic, our voice agents handle approximately 5,000 calls per day on national benefits and employment hotlines, resolving the majority autonomously.

In California, this expansion begins with investing in the state and creating high-paying, high-tech jobs. We're grateful to Governor Newsom, Director Dee Dee Myers and their teams for their partnership, and we look forward to building together in the years ahead.
