Vimeo is a video platform used by creators, enterprises, and streaming businesses to host, manage, and distribute video. As part of its work to help customers reach wider audiences. Vimeo built automated dubbing directly into its platform using ElevenLabs Dubbing through ElevenAPI. The goal was to let any customer localize a video into multiple languages without standing up a dedicated dubbing team for each country.
A single API for transcription, translation, and voice synthesis
Automated video dubbing across 40 languages
After reviewing the available dubbing models, Vimeo chose ElevenLabs based on output quality and ease of integration.
The integration was straightforward because one API handles transcription, translation, voice cloning, and voice synthesis in a single pipeline. This meant Vimeo could add dubbing to its platform with limited engineering effort, rather than assembling and maintaining separate systems for each step.
Editable dubbing that keeps creators in control
Building on the same API, Vimeo added the ability for customers to refine a dub after it is generated by editing the text tracks. Creators can correct or adjust the translated output directly, so the final result reflects their intent rather than a fixed automated pass.
Vimeo has taken a clear public position on how it uses AI, and that position shaped how it added AI features like dubbing. After gathering feedback from its community, Vimeo committed to prohibiting generative AI models from being trained on videos hosted on Vimeo without the creator's explicit consent, including on free plans. Vimeo describes this as protecting creators' rights and giving them transparency and control over how their work is used.
Automated dubbing is meant to reflect that approach. It gives creators a way to reach wider audiences while keeping control over the final output, since they can review and edit each dub before it is published.
Dubbing at scale across dozens of languages
Since January 2026, Vimeo customers have dubbed 1.4 million minutes of footage across more than 25,000 videos, and more than 27% of enterprise accounts have tried AI dubbing to date. On average, each video is dubbed into 3+ target languages, with thousands that have been dubbed into 10+ languages.
Customers dub across 35 source languages and 40 target languages. English is the most common source language, and the most requested targets are Spanish, French, German, Latin American Spanish, and Italian.
Enterprises use this feature to deliver content such as product updates, training material, and educational videos to markets where maintaining a dedicated dubbing team would not be practical.
Since we brought ElevenLabs dubbing into Vimeo, our customers have dubbed more than 1.4 million minutes of video into dozens of languages. For most of them, that global reach simply was not possible before. Now, a single video can speak to audiences everywhere. Some of our customers now dub one video into more than 30 languages at once.

Building global video for every audience
Video reaches its full audience only when people can watch it in their own language. By integrating ElevenLabs Dubbing through ElevenAPI, Vimeo turned localization from a manual, market-by-market effort into a feature its customers can use on demand, at scale, and with the ability to review and adjust the result.
