Keeping family connections alive across generations
Urdu AI initiative uses voice AI to overcome language and literacy barriers
When WANG launched its Urdu AI initiative, we worked together to address the education challenges faced by underserved communities in Pakistan. Our voice AI tools helped create audio resources in Urdu and English, making complex information easier to understand.
Using our text to speech technology, WANG developed course materials for learners with limited literacy skills. These tools were integrated into their AI avatar, Areeba Iman, who teaches English interactively. Areeba’s natural-sounding voice has already helped many learners, including those without access to other language training resources. Watch Areeba in action below:
Since the project began, WANG’s reach has continued to grow. In the past 30 days, Urdu AI reached over 22 million people globally, helping Urdu-speaking communities engage with AI education. Their TikTok now has 78,000 followers, and their Facebook community has grown to 115,000 followers, with some posts reaching over 1.5 million views. Demographically, most of their audience is aged 18–34, with 55.5% based in Pakistan and strong followings in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and South Africa.
Building on this, WANG recently added our conversational AI as a demo agent on their website. Early data shows users engaging regularly, with multiple interactions each day and a high success rate, highlighting how real-time AI can support effective learning.
This project shows how AI can support education by overcoming language and literacy barriers. We look forward to seeing its continued impact as more learners benefit.
More photos and video content to illustrate this story are forthcoming. For more on WANG and their work, visit WANG’s website.
