# How can I force a certain pronunciation of a word or name?

Eleven v3 includes native support for International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). Learn more in [IPA with Eleven v3](/docs/overview/capabilities/text-to-speech/best-practices#ipa-with-eleven-v3).

## SSML phoneme tags (Flash v2 and Turbo v2 only)

On Flash v2 and Turbo v2, you can force a certain pronunciation with SSML phoneme tags. We support both IPA and CMU. CMU tends to be a bit more predictable and consistent with the current implementation. You can find out more in our [pronunciation guide](/docs/overview/capabilities/text-to-speech/best-practices#pronunciation).

## Alternative spellings

Alternatively, a workaround is to find an alternative spelling and write a word more phonetically. You can employ various tricks such as capital letters, dashes, apostrophes, or even single quotation marks around a single letter or letters.

As an example, a word like "trapezii" could be spelt "trapezIi" to put more emphasis on the "ii" of the word.
